How to Backup Blu Ray Movies With Your PS3
Sun, Jul 5, 2009
Ok so a couple of posts ago I told everyone how to install YDL on their PS3, at this point your probably wondering what good it is, well there is one very hand thing you can do with YDL, you can back up your Blu Ray movies to your external HD which is great because you can also play them on your computer as well. Ok the first thing you need to do is get the External HD that you want and plug it into your computer if your on Mac open Disk Utility and select your drive and go to the erase tab then Mac OS X Extended partition and click erase. If your on windows go to start then right click on my computer and click manage and format your external HD to NTFS. If your on Mac follow the steps below, if your on Windows skip to Part 2:

(Note: Make sure that you DO NOT format your drive to Fat32 as it can only copy files 4GB in size so it wont work NTFS or Mac OS X Extended or others only) If you are running Mac Journaling will be enabled on most all of the partitions which makes them readable by Linux but not Writable so what you need to do is you need to force disable Journaling to do this you need to open up terminal and type this (press enter after each line) :
- diskutil list (USE THIS TO FIND YOUR EXTERNAL HD DISK NUMBERS)
- sudo diskutil disableJournal force /dev/disk?s? (REPLACE ? WITH YOUR EXTERNAL HD NUMBERS)
That method above might require you to unmount your drive first if you need to just drag your drive to the trash and it will unmount the drive. Windows should work off the bat with NTFS. **Part 2:** once all of that is done boot into Linux on your PS3 and put your blu ray disk into your PS3 and mount your drive by typing this into the YDL terminal without quotes “su root” then enter your root password then enter this into the YDL terminal “sudo mount /disk/by-label/YOUR-DRIVES-NAME /home” and then this “dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/whateveryourmovieiscalled.iso” and thats it once its done you should have a full Blu Ray movie which can be from 20GB-50GB in size. Enjoy!.
