iPhone 3G Explained
Tue, Jun 17, 2008

I know that there is a bunch of info about the iphone 3G out there, but what is really important, and more importantly, what do you need to know?.. well I will be explaining that here…. I will explain all the differences and software changes and also the aesthetic changes…. I will compare the old iphone (2G) to the new 3G iphone 2.
Ok we will start with the aesthetic/design changes:
- Now available in Glossy Black(8GB & 16GB) or Glossy White(Only 16GB) whereas the old iPhone was silver mixed with black(8GB and 16GB).
- The headphone jack can now take any set of headphones. The old iPhone could only take Apple earphones.
- The new iPhone is just the slightest bit fatter than the old 2G iPhone.
- Colors are not mixed like the old iPhone, for example the new 3G glossy white and glossy black iphones have a complete black or white back instead of being mixed with another color.
- Comes with 2.0 Pre-Installed
- The Safari icon has changed
- You will now have an application called AppStore where you can buy/get apps for free, legitimately from Apple instead of using 3rd party apps from random people.
- New calculator app (It now turns into a scientific calculator when you tilt it sideways)
- Phone.app has a few small changes
- You can now search for contacts in your contact book
- Google Maps Has Better GPS (Assisted GPS)
- Microsoft Exchange Support
- It now Obviously has a 3G chip installed (UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz).
- This isn’t different but it is worth pointing out, Its motherboard is the same as the 2G predecessor.
- Its speakerphone and headphone jack has much better sound clarity.
- It is now $199 for the 8GB and $299 for the 16GB
- Talk time: Up to 5 hours on 3G and up to 10 hours on 2G
- Standby time: Up to 300 hours
- Internet use: Up to 5 hours on 3G and up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi
- Video playback: Up to 7 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 24 hours
- Weight: 4.7 ounces (133 grams)
- Camera: 2.0MP

Highly helpful article. My spouse and i love this web site because it normally would seem that you know what you are usually discussing about. I will certainly vote you on digg.
thanks very much, I must comment that your site is brilliant!
I’ve had my Pre because shortly soon after release and am glad to discover (via this forum) that I can now set a ring tone on incoming text messages and can research via e-mails and this kind of. Now is there any hope for an upcoming launch by which I can research my calendar? Would make my work significantly much easier, locating dates of last appointments. No other complaints, except that yesterday I had been in and out of Sprint service (not unusual). I believe I used to be roaming, and looked at my calendar. Every thing in the calendar was one hour earlier than what I had input. The clock was one particular hour early as properly. I used to be afraid to death–then, as soon as we got back into Sprint program once more, everything was normalized. Has this happened to everyone else?? Looking forward to answers, but please keep in mind, I’m no techie and speak English in lieu of technospeak.
Have to say – THANK YOU unbelievably for this site!!
You don’t often find a good website which isn’t just trying to scam you anymore :P
I’ve already written it down so I can come back to it! :D
