Max Upgrades SSD Sled Plus How To Install An SSD Into A Mac Pro
Sun, Oct 11, 2009
Ok so as you may know I got an SSD (Solid State Drive) with my Mac Pro however as we all know you cant mount a 2.5′ drive in a 3.5′ Sled, so you may be thinking, how do I mount it in there then?, well surprisingly I came across a very good product for doing just that its called the Max Upgrades Hard Drive sled basically its like a modified Mac Pro sled but it allows you to mount any 2.5′ drive with this bracket as such. So the reason I’m so impressed by this is, first it came greatly packaged not a scratch on it all the way from the U.S, now the big thing is its a full high quality *Metal* bracket which is great it also has a big heat-sink on it to stop your drive of choice from getting hot for example a 2.5′ 10k velociraptor drive gets VERY hot, an SSD doesn’t really generate a lot of heat if any.

So how do you mount this? (Someone on this site also asked this question). All you do is get your drive and position it with the screw holes then get a screw and get the corresponding allen key the just simply screw it in place, simple just repeat for every screw there should be 4 holes, 4 screws etc. if you are looking to buy this great product here is the link to their site: http://maxupgrades.com also make sure that when you order from them you get the counterpart sled for example if you have an ‘08 Mac Pro get the ‘08 sled if you have an ‘09 Mac Pro get the ‘09 Sled. Sorry about this short post there will be more to come also check out my new page for my podcast that I just started http://bilsta57.com/?page_id=1263 it will have all the episodes of the podcast archived there.

If you had to choose between a Seagate, Western Digital, or a Samsung hard drive, which would it be? Which do you consider the most reliable out of them? I had a WD that went to crap on me after about 6 months, so I’m a bit leery of them.
